The Shanta Gattani Pre-School (formerly known as the Alok Memorial School) provides a personalized education to every child through a curriculum that has been refined for over 45 years.
Two programs, designed for maximum learning:
Junior Group (Ages 2.5 to 4.5)
The Junior Group consists of a Play Group (Ages 2.5 to 3.5) and Lower Kindergarten (Ages 3.5 to 4.5). During this time, the children learn how to communicate through the medium of Play, Oral Studies and Written Studies.
For Play, we use a variety of toys, blocks, clay, and puzzles, which train the children to problem-solve. The children also participate in activities with a variety of colourful materials to train pattern recognition.
For Oral studies, we encourage recessitations and memorization in both English and Hindi through songs, poems and rhymes.
For Written studies, we teach colouring as a technique to improve their pencil grip strength and strengthen hand-eye coordination. Once a child begins to show a firm grip, we start them on handwriting. For handwriting, we begin with scribbling and gradually move on to printing numbers and letters in print and cursive until the child reaches sufficient prowess in both writing and recognition.
We divide time accordingly based on each child’s unique needs, ensuring a personalized learning experience to maximize progress.
Senior Group (Ages 4.5 to 6)
The Senior Group consists the Upper Kindergarten Group (Ages 4.5-5.5) and the Prep Group (5.5-6). During this time, the children focus on building upon their early skill sets. This group follows three mediums - English, Math and Hindi.
For English, the group practices vocabulary and sentence structure, beginning with four word sentences, appostives, singulars and plural and genders. From there, the class progresses to include sentence construction and dictation (for improved memorization).
For Math, the group begins by mastering the identification of numbers and counting. Once they can name the first fifty numbers, we begin computations. This includes basic sequencing, addition and subtraction. From there, we graduate the children to double digit addition and subtraction and basic multiplication tables.
For Hindi, the group begins with found letter words. From there, the children learn the four matras and begin to construct two by two words with the matras. Next, the children begin sentence construction and Hindi dictation. Lastly, the children practice reading books with the matras and completing Hindi workbooks.
In the Prep Group, the children begin to progress to more advanced levels of vocabulary, reading and writing in both English and Hindi. This includes complex sentence construction (i.e., seven word sentences). The children also learn complex math such as complex addition and subtraction and multiplication tables up to 10.
